Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is as thrilling as it is demanding. As the popularity of the sport grows, especially in Houston, understanding the risks and preventive measures for common injuries is crucial for every fighter’s safety and longevity. MMA enthusiasts, ranging from beginners to professionals, face various physical challenges and injury risks that could sideline their passion without the proper precautions.
Key injuries in MMA, such as concussions, joint dislocations, and muscle strains, are not just painful but can profoundly impact an athlete's career if not addressed promptly and effectively. Awareness and education about these injuries are the first steps toward prevention, ultimately keeping you in the ring longer and healthier..
Fortunately, there are several scientifically-backed techniques to prevent MMA injuries. Proper warm-ups and cooldowns should never be underestimated, as they prepare the body for the stresses of combat and aid in recovery. Furthermore, incorporating strength training and flexibility exercises into your routine can enhance muscular stability and range of motion, significantly reducing the risk of injuries. Protective gear also plays a crucial role. Using essentials like mouthguards and headgear can prevent severe injuries and offer fighters peace of mind when stepping into the cage.
However, even the best preventive measures can’t eliminate all risks. This is where specialized care comes into play. In Houston, TRACE Body Rejuvenation provides tailor-made sports therapy and rehabilitation services designed to address the unique needs of MMA athletes. Scheduling a consultation can be the first step towards creating a personalized health regimen that supports your fighting career whether you’re taking your first steps in the study of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or are a seasoned warrior.
MMA combines different fighting styles such as Jiu-jitsu, grappling, wrestling, boxing, judo, and more, demanding a high level of physical fitness and tactical skill. However, the intense and combative nature of MMA often results in various injuries, affecting both professional and amateur fighters. Some of the most common injuries include broken bones, concussions, joint dislocations, sprains and muscle strains, each varying in severity but capable of significantly impacting an athlete’s performance and health.

Hockey is an intense, high-contact sport that can sometimes lead to injuries, including concussions. Understanding how to identify a concussion and what steps to take if one is suspected is crucial for players, coaches, and parents. At TRACE Body Rejuvenation in Houston, we specialize in combining TECAR therapy with manual therapy techniques to treat concussions effectively and expedite recovery.
Concussions are a type of traumatic brain injury caused by a blow to the head or body that results in the brain moving rapidly inside the skull. This movement can cause chemical changes in the brain and sometimes damage brain cells.
Causes and Symptoms
Causes: Concussions can result from falls, collisions, or impacts during sports and other physical activities. In hockey, they are often caused by body checks, falls on the ice, or collisions with other players or the boards.
Symptoms: Common symptoms include headache, confusion, dizziness, nausea, sensitivity to light and noise, and difficulty concentrating. Symptoms can appear immediately or develop over hours or days. Other symptoms may include balance problems, blurred vision, and memory issues.
Stop Activity: The person should immediately stop any physical activity to prevent further injury. Continuing to play can worsen the concussion and prolong recovery time.
Seek Medical Attention: A healthcare professional should evaluate the individual as soon as possible. Early assessment and management are crucial for a full recovery.
Monitor Symptoms: Keep a close watch on the individual for worsening symptoms or new symptoms appearing. If symptoms worsen or new symptoms develop, seek further medical attention immediately.
Rest: Both physical and mental rest are crucial for recovery. This includes avoiding activities that require concentration and physical exertion, such as reading, screen time, and sports.
Gradual Return to Activity: Slowly reintroduce activities as symptoms improve, following a healthcare professional's guidance. This gradual process helps ensure that the brain is fully recovered before resuming normal activities.
Medications: Over-the-counter pain relievers like acetaminophen can help manage headaches. Avoid NSAIDs like ibuprofen initially, as they can increase the risk of bleeding.

TECAR (Transfer of Energy Capacitive and Resistive) therapy uses radio frequency energy to stimulate tissue repair, reduce pain, and decrease inflammation. This non-invasive technique enhances blood flow and accelerates the healing process, making it beneficial for concussion recovery.
How TECAR Therapy Works
Enhanced Healing: TECAR therapy promotes faster healing by increasing blood circulation and stimulating cell regeneration in the affected area, helping the brain recover from the injury.
Pain Relief: The therapy helps reduce pain and inflammation, allowing the individual to feel better more quickly.
Combining TECAR therapy with manual therapy techniques provides a comprehensive treatment plan for concussions. Manual therapy includes techniques such as cranial massage and gentle mobilization to improve circulation and reduce muscle tension, aiding in overall recovery. Red and Infrared light therapy aid in alleviating headaches, ease muscle tension from trauma, and calm the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems.
Benefits of Combined Therapy
Cranial Massage: Helps reduce muscle tension and improve blood flow to the head and neck, promoting relaxation and recovery.
Gentle Mobilization: Can help restore normal movement and function, reducing stiffness and enhancing overall recovery.
If you suspect a concussion or are dealing with the aftermath of one, schedule a consultation at TRACE Body Rejuvenation in Houston. Our expert team will help you explore the latest techniques in treating concussions and find the best option for your needs. With our personalized approach and advanced therapies, you can achieve faster and more effective recovery.
If you're an avid cyclist, you're likely familiar with the joy and freedom the open road brings. However, along with the exhilarating rides comes the risk of sports-related injuries, particularly around the knee. Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome (PFPS), commonly known as cyclist's knee, is one such condition that can hamper your performance and enjoyment. This article delves into the causes of PFPS, its symptoms, and why it's a frequent complaint among cycling enthusiasts.
Cyclist's knee results from the stress of repetitive motion, impacting the way your kneecap (patella) moves over your thigh bone (femur), which can lead to pain and discomfort around the front of the knee. Recognizing the symptoms early can help in managing the condition more effectively and prevent further complications
One of the advanced treatment options gaining popularity for its efficacy in treating sports injuries, including PFPS, is TECAR therapy. This non-invasive technique enhances natural recovery by promoting circulation and cellular activity in the affected area. TECAR therapy uses electricity to transfer energy to soft tissues like muscles (capacitive tissues) and hard, resistive tissues like tendons and ligaments to stimulate healing, reduce pain, and restore function.
Recent case studies and clinical evidence have highlighted the effectiveness of TECAR therapy in treating PFPS among cyclists. This innovative approach not only alleviates pain but also accelerates recovery, allowing you to get back on track faster than many conventional treatments.

The repetitive motion of the knee during cycling, combined with the potential strain placed on the patellofemoral joint, makes cyclists a high-risk group for developing PFPS. Quadricep weakness, poor bike fit, and improper technique are significant factors contributing to this condition. Ensuring your bike is properly fitted and maintaining a balanced riding technique can help mitigate these risks
Success Stories: Healing Cyclist Injuries with TECAR Therapy

Pickle ball is an exciting and rapidly growing sport enjoyed by people of all ages. However, like any physical activity, it comes with the risk of injuries, particularly ankle sprains. Understanding how to prevent ankle sprains can help you stay on the court and enjoy the game without interruption. At TRACE Body Rejuvenation in Houston, we specialize in combining TECAR therapy with manual therapy techniques to help resolve common pickle ball injuries and expedite recovery.
Ankle sprains are one of the most common pickle ball injuries due to the quick lateral movements and sudden changes in direction required by the game. These movements can put significant strain on the ankle ligaments, leading to overstretching or tearing. Factors such as improper footwear, lack of warm-up, and poor court conditions can increase the risk of ankle sprains.
Symptoms of an ankle sprain, a frequent pickle ball injury, can include pain, swelling, bruising, and difficulty walking or bearing weight on the affected foot. Severe sprains may also cause instability in the ankle joint, making it more prone to future injuries.
Proper Footwear: Wearing appropriate footwear is crucial in preventing ankle sprains, one of the most common pickle ball injuries. Choose shoes specifically designed for court sports, as they provide better support and stability. Look for features like non-slip soles, ankle support, and cushioning to absorb impact.
Supportive Shoes: Ensure your shoes fit well and provide adequate support around the ankles. Avoid worn-out shoes, as they may not offer the necessary protection
Shoe Inserts: Consider using orthotic inserts to enhance support and alignment, especially if you have a history of ankle injuries or foot issues.
Warm-Up and Stretching: Warming up before playing pickle ball prepares your muscles and joints for the physical activity, reducing the risk of injuries.
Dynamic Warm-Up: Engage in a dynamic warm-up routine that includes light jogging, high knees, and butt kicks to increase blood flow and flexibility.
Ankle Stretching: Incorporate ankle stretches to improve flexibility and strength. Exercises like ankle circles, toe raises, and resistance band stretches can be beneficial.
Strengthening Exercises: Strengthening the muscles around your ankles can provide better support and reduce the risk of sprains.
Balance Training: Incorporate balance exercises such as standing on one leg or using a balance board to improve ankle stability.
Strengthening Drills: Perform ankle strengthening drills like calf raises, toe walks, and heel walks to build muscle strength and endurance.

TECAR (Transfer of Energy to Capacitive and Resistive tissues) therapy is an advanced treatment that uses radio frequency energy to stimulate tissue repair, reduce pain, and decrease inflammation. This non-invasive technique enhances blood flow and accelerates the healing process, making it an excellent option for treating ankle sprains.
Enhanced Healing: TECAR therapy promotes faster healing by increasing blood circulation and stimulating cell regeneration in the affected area.
Pain Relief: The therapy helps reduce pain and inflammation, allowing you to return to activity more quickly and comfortably.
Combining TECAR therapy with manual therapy techniques provides comprehensive treatment for ankle sprains. Manual therapy includes techniques such as massage, mobilization, and stretching to improve flexibility, restore-range of motion, and reduce muscle tension
Massage: Massage therapy helps reduce muscle tension and improve blood flow to the injured area, aiding in recovery.
Mobilization: Joint mobilization techniques can restore normal movement and function to the ankle joint, preventing stiffness and enhancing recovery.
Stretching: Regular stretching exercises can improve flexibility and prevent future injuries by maintaining the range of motion in the ankle joint.
Strengthening: Vital to future injury prevention is strength and stabilization of that joint. Exercises specific to foot and ankle health is important.
At TRACE Body Rejuvenation, we create personalized treatment plans tailored to each patient's specific needs. Our approach combines TECAR therapy with various manual therapy techniques to optimize recovery. Our skilled therapists work closely with patients to ensure they receive the best possible care, helping them return to the court stronger and more resilient.
Every patient undergoes a thorough assessment to determine the extent of their injury and identify the best course of treatment. Our therapists consider factors such as the severity of the sprain, the patient's overall health, and their goals for recovery.
We provide continuous support and make necessary adjustments to the treatment plan based on the patient's progress. Regular follow-up appointments ensure that the therapy is effective and that the patient is on the right track to recovery.

When it comes to shedding those extra pounds, the right medication can make all the difference. At TRACE Body Rejuvenation in Houston, we're here to help you navigate between Tirzepatide and Semaglutide, two top contenders in the world of weight loss. Both pack a punch in the fight against fat, but each has its own unique strengths. Let’s break it down so you can make the best choice for your journey.
Tirzepatide and Semaglutide are like the dynamic duo of weight loss injections. Tirzepatide, the new kid on the block, has been turning heads with its rapid and long-lasting results. Clinical trials have shown impressive weight loss in a shorter timeframe, which is great news if you’re looking to see quick progress.
Semaglutide, however, is the seasoned pro with a solid track record. It’s been helping people lose weight steadily and reliably for longer, making it a trusted option for many. If you’re someone who prefers a steady pace, Semaglutide might be your go-to.
Now, let’s talk dollars and cents. Tirzepatide is a bit pricier, reflecting its status as the latest and greatest. If you’re after fast results and don’t mind investing a bit more, Tirzepatide could be worth the splurge.
On the flip side, Semaglutide offers a more budget-friendly approach while still delivering solid results. It’s a great option if you’re looking for effective weight loss without breaking the bank. Think of it as the marathon runner to Tirzepatide’s sprinter.

Here’s where things get a bit science-y, but stick with us. Tirzepatide works by mimicking two hormones, GLP-1 and GIP, which help control blood sugar and curb your appetite. This double action means more insulin sensitivity and less food intake, which equals weight loss.
Semaglutide, on the other hand, focuses on the GLP-1 receptor. It boosts insulin secretion, reduces glucagon levels, and slows down digestion, helping you feel full longer and eat less. Both medications are great at what they do, but Tirzepatide’s dual approach gives it a slight edge for those looking for a more aggressive strategy.
We’ve seen some amazing success stories at TRACE Body Rejuvenation. Many of our clients rave about Tirzepatide’s ability to deliver fast and long-lasting weight loss. It’s a popular choice for those who want to see significant changes quickly.
Semaglutide users also have plenty to cheer about. The steady, gradual weight loss it offers can be easier to maintain over time, making it a fantastic choice for long-term success. Plus, fewer side effects mean you can focus on your progress without the bumps in the road.
Choosing between Tirzepatide and Semaglutide doesn’t have to be daunting. Consider your goals, budget, and how quickly you want to see results. At TRACE Body Rejuvenation, we’re here to guide you every step of the way. Whether you’re leaning towards the rapid results of Tirzepatide or the steady pace of Semaglutide, we’ve got you covered.
Ready to take the next step? Contact TRACE Body Rejuvenation for a personalized consultation to explore the best weight loss treatment options for your needs. Visit our Houston clinic or schedule an online consultation to see if Tirzepatide or Semaglutide is the right fit for you.
In the world of wellness gadgets, the Chi Machine stands out as a popular tool, especially for those dealing with arthritis, lower back problems, and limited mobility. But what exactly does it offer, and are the weight loss claims true? Let's dive into the real benefits and bust some common myths about the Chi Machine.
DISCLAIMER: If you’re considering incorporating the Chi Machine into your wellness routine, it’s important to consult with your doctor first, especially if you have existing health conditions.
The Chi Machine is a device designed to gently move your body in a fish-like motion while you lie down. It's often marketed as a tool that provides passive exercise, which sounds great, but what does that mean for the average person?

If you suffer from arthritis or lower back pain, the Chi Machine can be a gentle way to find some relief. The gentle oscillation can help improve joint mobility and reduce pain without putting additional stress on the joints. This is particularly beneficial for those who find traditional exercise routines too painful or difficult to maintain.
How It Helps:
For individuals with limited mobility or older adults, maintaining circulation is key to overall health. The Chi Machine helps stimulate blood flow and lymphatic movement, which can reduce swelling and improve comfort.
Key Advantages:
Passive exercise can greatly benefit people who physically cannot move much due to conditions like hemiplegia (paralysis on one side of the body), spasticity, Parkinson's, or post-stroke recovery. If someone cannot move their limbs independently, then passive exercise such as the Chi Machine set to the lowest setting may greatly benefit them. The Chi Machine can gently improve circulation and blood flow, which may be of great relief to those who suffer from Raynaud's Syndrome, where the person experiences cold hands and feet.
Let's clear up what passive exercise means. Unlike active exercise, where you actively engage your muscles and cardiovascular system, passive exercise involves the body being moved without significant effort on your part. While it won't replace the benefits of active exercise, it can be a valuable tool for those who can't engage in regular physical activity.
Passive vs. Active Exercise:
One common myth about the Chi Machine is that it can help with weight loss. The truth is, while it offers many health benefits, weight loss isn't one of them. For those looking to lose weight, traditional methods like a balanced diet and active exercise are still the way to go.
The Reality:
The Chi Machine offers significant benefits for those with arthritis, lower back problems, and limited mobility. While it doesn’t provide the same benefits as active exercise and isn’t a weight loss tool, it’s a valuable device for improving circulation and mobility. Remember, consult your doctor before starting any new health regimen, and consider visiting TRACE Body Rejuvenation in Houston for personalized guidance and treatments. If you or a loved one suffers from the inability to exercise, perhaps a session at TRACE using the Chi Machine combined with TECAR and red light/infrared therapies may offer some relief from overnight muscles, body aches, and pains.
I’m Laura Mildon, founder of TRACE | Body Rejuvenation, and I insist that my therapists and I take time to work on each other as body work is vital in maintaining joint health, strength, and range of motion. I had frozen shoulder ten years ago. I’m a former athlete who was a long distance runner and competitive boxer, and I suspect that my Hashimoto’s hypothyroiditis may have played a role in my ongoing shoulder impingement since other causes have been ruled out such as injury or sedentary lifestyle. Here is my experience with TECAR therapy.
I go through great periods of being pain free, with my strength restored, and can sleep at night without pain. Anyone with shoulder impingement issues knows that a good night’s sleep without pain is a rare thing indeed.
Today after filming our social media videos, I realized that I could not demonstrate the shoulder exercises I make everyone else do. It was clear I needed to get worked on, and following are pictures using a thermal heat camera to depict what’s going on below the skin that the eye can’t see.
Following heat maps show what is happening inside the body when coupling TECAR therapy with manual therapy to relieve tension within the rotator cuff.
Range of Motion
The first sign that shows one needs a visit to TRACE is loss of range of motion. This is a picture of my external rotation capabilities when lying down on the table. Ideally, when I bend my arms out to the side, I should be able to drop my arms all the way to the table.
That’s it. That’s all I’ve got. I’m proverbially miles away from the table. For therapists, we sometimes whip out a protractor-like devices called a goniometer to measure the angle of a particular range of motion. My starting is 110° which is very far from this arm resting on the table with ease.

Understanding the Thermal Camera
So often I hear from people, “The doctor says everything is normal. Nobody believes how much pain I’m in. Apparently the X-rays and CT scans say everything is okay. Nobody can see my pain.”
A theory I’m setting out to prove is that maybe we can see your pain. In these images, we use a setting where the more yellow-white an area is, the hotter it is physically. As we move down the spectrum, warm tissues will image as orange and red, while colder tissues image as pinkish-purple and blue.
TECAR therapy creates a deep internal diathermy – or, heat that is generated and built from within. With TECAR therapy, there is no heat that comes off our electrodes, the heat felt by the client and patient is created from within the body!
Blood’s job is to deliver oxygen and nutrients and remove waste and CO2. My theory is that overtight muscles, tendons and ligaments will not be sufficiently warm to bring blood and move out waste. What if we could see a problem?

Around the right shoulder, we see it’s all orangey-red moving to purple through the back of the arm around the triceps. The triceps acts as an extensor of the elbow but also a shoulder stabilizer.

Notice the orange bands across the pec minor that go into the top of the biceps tendon and deltoid. Those are some tight muscles restricting my ability to flop my arm comfortably flat against the table.
TECAR Therapy
Using TECAR therapy, we are able to promote intense blood flow, calm angry nerves, and tease loose overtight tendons within minutes!

Before TECAR Therapy

During TECAR Therapy

Notice the yellow-white heat being produced by my body from where the electrode is placed. Now my therapist can begin teasing loose these highly restricted muscles.
Now it’s time to remove the electrode from my arm and put it on my therapist’s arm. Now his whole body is an active electrode, and wherever he touches me, the current runs through his hands and into my targeted muscles.

Within twenty minutes, my pain levels are drastically reduced and my range of motion has been vastly improved. This prepares me for all the shoulder impingement exercises that I need to do to maintain strength, mobility and stability within that joint, which was impossible before treatment.

The shoulder is a cranky joint. It’s a big, audacious necessary joint that we use for everything. With TECAR therapy, the treatment benefits continue to develop over the next several days as the body continues to work at that accelerated metabolic rate within those tissues. This means all my efforts in stretching and strengthening assures me months of being pain free.
Before and after in the span of 20 minutes

The combination of therapies, including TECAR therapy, manual intervention and thermal imaging, has significantly improved my shoulder's range of motion and reduced pain, allowing me to regain functionality. These advanced techniques at TRACE | Body Rejuvenation provide visible proof of improvement and help our clients achieve pain-free movement and a better quality of life. If you are struggling with similar issues, I encourage you to experience these therapeutic benefits for yourself. We are committed to using these innovative methods to support your health and well-being.
Sinusitis can be like having a never-ending cold, with painful pressure, headaches, and even a loss of smell making life miserable. But don’t worry—there’s a brighter side! At TRACE Body Rejuvenation in Houston, we offer a game-changing treatment called TECAR therapy. This innovative therapy provides relief from sinusitis symptoms without the need for surgery, so you can breathe easy and get back to enjoying life.
Sinusitis is the painful inflammation of the sinuses, often resulting from colds, allergies, or chronic infections. The condition can become so severe that it requires surgical intervention to remove the blockage. Bacteria and overstimulated mucus production can lead to impacted sinus passages, completely blocking the ability to breathe. Patients may also experience referred pain, such as toothaches, when their sinuses are inflamed.
Several factors contribute to sinusitis, including:
For many individuals, self-help measures like taking antihistamines, nasal rinsing, and using saline sprays can help manage sinusitis symptoms. However, severe cases may require more intensive medical interventions, such as antibiotics, steroids, and in some cases, surgery. Despite these efforts, some patients continue to suffer from persistent symptoms and seek alternative treatments.
TRACE Body Rejuvenation has successfully used TECAR therapy to provide relief for those suffering from sinusitis, often saving them from the need for surgery. TECAR therapy works by using radiofrequency energy to stimulate deep tissue healing, reducing inflammation and promoting drainage of the sinuses.
Linda Warner, one of our clients, came to us with severe sinusitis ahead of her daughter’s wedding. She had a 100% blockage in her left sinus passages and had undergone a year of antibiotics, steroids, and nasal rinses with no relief. She was even scheduled for surgery to remove the blockage. After just two TECAR therapy sessions within a week, imaging showed a significant reduction in blockage from 100% to 50%, leading her physician to cancel the surgery.
Air passages in radiology images of the sinuses or lungs will be black. The sinus passages in the head are hollow voids. The image on the left has arrows showing sinus passages that should image as black, but they are blocked showing the severity of the impacted material. The image on the right shows a dramatic reduction in the blockage. We continued with several more treatments to keep the improvement going. Below are the before and after results for Linda Warner!

TECAR therapy offers several benefits for those suffering from sinusitis:
At TRACE Body Rejuvenation, our experienced practitioners tailor TECAR therapy to each patient’s needs, ensuring the best possible outcomes.

It begins when Cheick Kongo, former UFC and current Bellator Heavyweight MMA fighter and Laura Mildon became the best of friends – they think they’re siblings but they’re not fooling anybody, Laura is short and Cheick is 6’5” tall.
Cheick and Laura shared a similar problem: shoulder injury. Cheick showed Laura something new to America called TECAR therapy with a device from France. Together they brought this technology to the United States, got it through the FDA process and began training other doctors and therapists on the TECAR Therapy benefits in rapidly healing sports injuries in half the time of traditional physical therapy.
We look at the body differently. We treat differently. If we get a right-handed pitcher in, we can automatically see how their body is sculpted to perform the task of launching a ball 100mph to a batter. We know that the team’s therapists and trainers see that person as a right arm. We see a whole body attached to that rocket launcher of an arm. So when an athlete comes in with a chief complaint of a specific body part – we begin unraveling the mystery as to why that part hurts beyond just being an overuse injury. Here the TECAR Therapy benefits play a crucial role in addressing not just the symptoms but the underlying causes of pain and injury.
Athletics is about muscle memory, repetition (lots and lots of repetition), posture, fast and slow twitch muscle training. When an athlete is using their body, it’s just a matter of time for fatigue and potential injury to sneak in. Recognizing this, we incorporate the TECAR therapy benefits into our treatment plans, ensuring that athletes not only recover faster but also strengthen their bodies to prevent future injuries.

At TRACE | Body Rejuvenation, we got our humble beginnings working with athletes – from professional boxers and MMA fighters to professional and collegiate baseball, football and basketball athletes honing their skills in the hopes of getting drafted. We work with dancers from prima ballerinas, to nationally competitive tap and ballroom dancers. Why would the coaches and trainers who prepare the pros refer their players to us?
The TRACE techniques that comprise Tension Release Therapy coupled with TECAR technology helps speed the healing of injuries from trauma and over-training. The TECAR therapy benefits are instrumental in addressing both hard and soft tissue injuries, allowing you to get back in the game swiftly.

Getting and staying injury free are two different animals! At TRACE, our mission is to keep athletes in the game. This means a focus on muscle relaxation, ensuring we’ve pushed out any excess inflammation from prior injury, and establish appropriate range of motion to keep our athletes game ready. The TECAR therapy benefits we utilize help prevent delayed onset muscle soreness so that athletes don’t feel quite as knackered after competitions.
